I was looking up the exact wording for a quotation that I remembered only in part. It is from Amy Tan's THE JOY LUCK CLUB. When I typed into Google "This feather may look worthless . . ." I was surprised to find a JWN thread at the top of the list, having some 1400 hits.

There were only a few comments on this old, long-forgotten thread of mine, but quite a number of reads. It makes me wonder if many other individuals, like me, have typed in Ms. Tan's famous line.

greetings to all who surf shark-infested internet waters.. after i was hit by ransomware the other day, i did research on so-called safe sites.

it seems more and more sites are being infected deliberately by hackers.

i went to a legit-looking site on a famous artist and -- wham!

Villagegirl: I don't know how to answer all your questions. Yes, iMacs appear free from what plagues pcs. The old desktop I'm on now has safeguards that appear regularly to alert me. The 10-year-old iMac laptop given me (the object of this thread) had not been cleaned up of the former owner's stuff; as a result, it was difficult to operate in an optimum manner because, on delivery, I was given no passwords. All procedures were blocked as a result. No updates and regular check-ups made it vulnerable, I'm surmising.

.. the new wbt$ donation arrangement/ jw kingdom hall bank account theft... is a very hot topic right now... the wbt$ is literally going to clean out kingdom hall bank accounts,filled with donations from jws... that theft is going to happen world wide..the wbt$ is going to steal from 7 million plus jw`s... .. we have jw elders here on jwn,that know whats going on... they "serve" in kingdom halls,they are "supposed" to be looking after the welfare of the average jw... they know there is a 4 page letter,only one page will be read to the congregation..the rest will be kept secret... they know the wbt$ is about to steal jw donations..on a world wide scale!!!...

.. i would like to know what you active jw elders are going to do about this??!!...

are you going to let "your" congregation know about the other 3 secret pages?...

…is it not a comfort for them to know that in the local congregation of Jehovah’s witnesses they will never be tithed to pay out a percentage of their income? Nor will unscriptural money-raising schemes be imposed on them. It is at the Kingdom Hall that an unobtrusive contribution box is located for use by those who wish voluntarily to give money to support the work of the congregation. Donations mailed to the headquarters of the Watch Tower Society are also unsolicited and entirely voluntary.
